THE PSOAS – Traditional and New Techniques to treat the Key Structures of the Pelvis and Lower Extremities met Dr. Peter Schwind
In this workshop we will discuss the different roles that the M.Psoas has to play for different functions of the human organism.
- Its role for well coordinated movement of the lower extremities in walking
- Its role as a „spacer“ of the retroperitoneal cavity
- Its role for physiological appropriate mobility of the kidneys
- Its role for balanced mobility of the digestive tract
The main emphasis of this course is practical. We will start with a detailed exploration of the microstructural approach of W.G.Sutherland and the macrostructural approach of Ida. P. Rolf, the founder of the Rolfing Method of Structural Integration.
We will have a look at the practical value of this traditional approaches, we will discuss their efficiency, risks and contraindications within the context of manual tests. And we will follow up with new techniques for treatment of the M. Psoas major, M. Psoas minor and their related fascia, for the viscoelasticity of the supportive fat of the kidneys, the renal fascia and the peritoneum.
Each technique will be explained in relation to anatomical units involved. And each technique will be discussed in relationship to dysfunctions of the hip and knee and of the articulations of the pelvis and vertebral spine.
